TOYOTA LANDCRUISER 79 SERIES 2.8L DUAL CAB

105 LITRE AUXILIARY LONG RANGE FUEL TANK

Brown Davis is proud to release a mid-chassis long range auxiliary fuel tank for the latest Toyota Landcruiser 79 Series 2.8L Dual Cab. Due to the new 4 cylinder auto powertrain in the current 79 Series Landcruisers, a completely new design was required for an auxiliary tank.

The Brown Davis 105L Auxiliary Fuel Tank takes the Toyota Landcruiser 79 Dual Cab from a decent 130L fuel capacity to a massive 235L. Say goodbye to range anxiety and hello to the most remote of adventures with a predicted increased fuel range of 2448 kms! Furthermore, the Brown Davis auxiliary tank is located in the middle of the vehicle, ideal for weight distribution.

The Landcruiser 79 Dual Cab Auxiliary Tank fits with most aftermarket single exhausts. Twin Exhausts however may require alteration. The base of the Brown Davis tank follows the line of the vehicles chassis, having no effect on the vehicles ground clearance or ramp over.

INDEPENDENT FEED SYSTEM

PART NUMBER: TL79DCA5

This system is designed as a change over system, which means at the flick of a switch the driver can independently feed the engine directly from either the main or Brown Davis auxiliary tank.  This allows you to manage weight distribution by draining the rear tank first to keep weight forward of the rear axle. This is the same system as the early 79 Series single cabs and 100 series with twin tanks.  All parts and hardware for install are supplied.

LED Auxiliary Gauge

Led gauge supplied in the independent feed system to monitor the fuel level in the auxiliary tank. Installed typically under the dash above the gear stick in a 79 series

MAIN/AUX Rocker Switch

Allows you to quickly choose which tank you wish to feed the engine from. Installed in a factory Toyota switch knockout.

6 Port Change Over Valve

Function:

  • Feed from main tank
  • Return to main tank
  • Feed from auxiliary tank
  • Return to auxiliary tank
  • Feed engine
  • Return from engine

Brown Davis manufactures a wide range of both Steel and Poly tanks so finding the right type of tank for your vehicle is crucial. Many factors need to taken into account so below are the highlights of both our steel and poly long range fuel tanks.

STEEL LONG RANGE FUEL TANKS

  • DRAIN PLUG

ALL BROWN DAVIS STEEL FUEL TANKS COME WITH A DRAIN PLUG FOR DRAINING CONTAMINATED FUEL OR EVEN COLLECTING SOME FUEL FOR A MATE.

  • BAFFLES

ALL BROWN DAVIS STEEL LONG RANGE FUEL TANKS HAVE INTERNAL BAFFFLES, THIS MINIMIZES FUEL SLOSH AND MOVEMENT. ALSO PROVIDING THE TANK WITH GREATER STRENGTH AND INGEGRITY.

  • SWIRL POT

ALMOST ALL BROWN DAVIS STEEL LONG RANGE FUEL TANKS HAVE AN INTERNAL SWIRL POT. THIS DESIGN TRAPS FUEL AROUND THE PICK UP SO THAT YOU CAN RUN DOWN TO THE LAST FEW LITRES.

For 4WDs and tourers planning to head off the beaten track, our aluminized steel Long Range Fuel Tank is the best option.

POLY LONG RANGE FUEL TANKS

  • LIGHT WEIGHT

IF WEIGHT IS CRITICAL IN YOUR VEHICLE ON AVERAGE MOST LONG RANGE POLY TANKS ARE 10-15KG LIGHTER THAN STEEL TANKS.

For fleet managers and customers sitting primarily on surfaced road, poly long range fuel tanks is a great option.

Building a Brown Davis Tank

Since the beginning, Brown Davis has taken pride in the construction of our tanks, our Toyota Landcruiser 79 Series 2.8L Dual Cab (2024 – PRESENT) tank is no exception. Our tanks are made with quality and care, from the materials we use to the stringent pressure testing, they are prepared for the harshest conditions.

Laser Cut Aluminized Steel

Manufacturing our steel tanks starts with laser cut aluminized steel. With this material, your tank will have the strength and durability of steel, and the anti-corrosive properties of aluminum to make sure their is no rust.

Folded Before Welded

Before welding the tank, we use specialized machinery to fold the laser cut aluminized steel to decrease the amount of time and labor put into welding. Folded parts also have superior strength to welded parts.

High Quality Welding Every Time

Next, our experienced welders add the brackets, swirl pot and baffles to the tank and then weld it all off.  We use jigs to locate the brackets for each individual tank so installation is as consistent and easy as possible for every vehicle.

Pressure Testing

Lastly, we take it through an air pressure test. This involves a soap test, submersion test and a pressure gauge. These techniques help us identify any rare leaks and where they’re coming from. If air isn’t coming out, fuel definitely isn’t.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. All Brown Davis Fuel Tanks come with everything required to be fitted to your vehicle. This includes auxiliary (secondary) Fuel Tanks which come with electric fuel pump, hoses, wiring and fuel gauge.

If you are planning to go off-road, we recommend our Steel Long Range Fuel Tanks where extra protection is not necessary. Made from 2mm Aluminised Steel, strength and durability are without question. Need more convincing? Check out the boys from All4Adventure and ExploreLife, both who run our steel tanks and have seen their fair share of remote and rugged environments.

Our Long Range Replacement Fuel Tanks are designed to make no impact to your vehicle’s stock clearance and ramp over angle. We design our Fuel Tanks with not only touring but hard four-wheel-driving in mind, therefore, maintaining stock clearance is paramount.

Your Brown Davis Auxiliary Fuel Tank with an independent feed system works the same as 100 Series Landcruisers do with main and sub fuel tanks. You can choose which fuel tank to directly feed the engine from by a rocker switch installed in the dash with ‘main’ and ‘aux’ written on it. This means you can choose to feed your engine from your rear most fuel tank first, keeping the weight towards the centre of the vehicle for optimal weight distribution. Furthermore, if one fuel tank is compromised, you can keep on driving as normal.

The transfer flow rate is roughly 1-2 litres per minute. It is advised to transfer fuel from the Brown Davis Auxiliary Tank whilst driving, as the transfer pump feeds fuel quicker than your engine draws it, which makes pumping fuel whilst parked unnecessary.

Your Brown Davis Auxiliary Long Range Fuel Tank will come with a coin sized fuel gauge with an integrated transfer pump activator button. To pump fuel from the BD Auxiliary Tank, simply press the button on your gauge and you will hear the pump turn on.

Most Brown Davis Auxiliary Fuel Tanks have a turn off buzzer that works in conjunction with the fuel gauge. When the fuel gauge reads empty (red), a buzzer will sound indicating to turn the transfer fuel pump off, therefore preventing pump burnout.

In some cases, a buzzer isn’t integrated, however, simply monitoring the level on the Auxiliary Tank fuel gauge and listening for the pump noise becoming obnoxious, both of which will indicate to turn the pump off.
